He made his professional football debut at the age of 15 with Spanish team Leganés. At the same time, he played his first matches with the Cameroon national team, with whom he won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympics as well as two African Cups, in 2000 and 2002. With 56 goals he is still the top scorer of his national team.
After making himself known among the ranks of Mallorca, he moved to Barcelona, where he won the championship and the Spanish Super Cup in his debut year. The peak was reached in 2008/09, when Barca won the Spanish League, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
He moved to Inter, coached by José Mourinho. He was among the protagonists of an epic season for the team, becoming the only one in Italy to have achieved a “treble”, winning the Champions League, the Italian Cup and the Italian championship.
He left football after playing in Russia, Great Britain, Turkey and Qatar. In 2021 he was appointed President of the Cameroon Football Federation. Throughout his career Samuel has stood out for his social commitment, having created the Fundación Privada Samuel Eto’o with the aim of helping young Cameroonians.
