After his first excellent seasons in Europe, spent between Genoa and Real Zaragoza, “El Principe” earned a call-up to the Argentina national team. He made his debut with the Albiceleste and began a career that would lead him to 25 appearances and 4 goals, participating in the 2010 World Cup and two editions of the Copa Américas.

He caught the attention of Inter, becoming the offensive leader of José Mourinho’s team. With the Nerazzurri, he was one of the key players in the “Treble”: he won Serie A, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League, scoring the winning goal in the Coppa Italia final, the Scudetto-winning goal, and 2 goals in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

He returned to Racing Club, the team with which he made his professional football debut, leading them to victory in the Argentine championship. In 2016, he retired from playing, ending a career that had seen him win 8 official titles, including 2 Argentine championships, 1 Italian Championship, 1 Champions League title, and 1 Club World Cup. Known not only for his eye for goal but also for his sportsmanship, “El Principe” has been a model of integrity for years, earning the unanimous respect of the football world.

After embarking on a career as a sports commentator, collaborating with Amazon Prime Video for Champions League match commentary and with DAZN, he was elected president of Racing Club, further strengthening his ties with the Avellaneda club.
