ATHLETICS - HIGH JUMP
Tamberi won the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Portland. In July he won the European Championships in Amsterdam, with a height of 2.32 m, becoming the first Italian to win the European gold in the high jump.
Another record came for ‘Gimbo’ when he triumphed at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, the first Italian to win gold in the high jump at the European indoor event.
At the Tokyo Olympic Games, Gimbo tied in first place with Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim but, rather than continue with a play-off, the two athletes agreed on a tie and took the highest step on the podium together. In 2022, at the European Championships in Munich, he won the gold medal in the high jump with a height of 2.30 m.
A year to remember for Gimbo, who contributed to Italy’s first success in the European Team Championships in Chorzów. In August he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest, jumping a height of 2.36 m. In 2024 he won gold once again at the European Championships in Rome, a few weeks before becoming Italy’s flag bearer at the Olympic Games in Paris.
