ATHLETICS - HIGH JUMP
Raised in a family of athletes, at the age of 17 Blanka made her debut in international competitions at the Sydney Olympic Games. She proved to be a rising star in the high jump winning the junior world championships in Santiago just a few weeks later.
In Osaka she won her first world title, with a jump of 2.05 meters. The following year she earned the top step of the podium at the indoor world championships in Valencia and, after collecting an impressive series of 34 consecutive victories, she won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.
Once again Blanka won the world championships in Berlin, whilst in Zagreb she recorded her personal best by jumping 2.08 meters, earning third place in the overall ranking of the women’s high jump.
She returns to competing after a long pause due to an injury, winning a silver medal at the World Championships in Beijing and, the following year, a bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In 2021 she announced her retirement, bringing a long career that saw her win 21 international medals to a close.
