1963

He founded HF (High Fidelity), the Lancia racing team, starting the Turin-based company’s rally era. As Lancia’s sports director, and later, manager overseeing the Fiat group’s entire sporting activities, he won 18 world titles until 1988.

1983

The year marking one of his greatest victories: the Lancia team won the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers with the 037, beating Audi. An undertaking that was recounted in the 2024 film “Race for Glory”, directed by Stefano Mordini with the role of Fiorio played by Riccardo Scamarcio.

1989

He moved up to Formula 1, becoming sports director of the Ferrari team. The team achieved 25 podium places and 9 victories, just missing out on the Drivers’ title in 1990 with Alain Prost. His adventure in Formula 1 later continued with Ligier and Minardi.

1992

His love of motor sports also took him to the world of speed boat racing where he entered the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest Atlantic crossing from West to East, with the monohull Destriero.
