Formerly a gymnast, the young promising paralympic swimmer first competed for the Italian team at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada, where she won the silver medal in the 4×50m freestyle relay.
At her Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games she won two medals: a silver in the 100m breaststroke and a bronze in the 50m butterfly.
Flag-bearer of the Italian national team, at the World Cup in Mexico City, Giulia collected even more medals by earning a world championship gold in the 100m breaststroke, a bronze in the 50m butterfly and a silver in the medley relay, paving the way towards a European championship success in Dublin in 2018.
After the extraordinary comeback that earned her the Olympic silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games, Giulia concluded the year by improving her world record in the 50m short course butterfly before ushering in the year 2022, when she was among the first Paralympic athletes to enter the Fiamme Oro Sports Group, a division of the Italian Police Force.
