Sofia achieved her first World Cup victories, establishing herself as one of the fastest and most spectacular skiers on the circuit. This marked the beginning of her success among the speed greats, thanks to her aggressive style and uncommon courage. The following year, she was among the winners of the Fair Play Menarini International Award.
Sofia made Italian sporting history by winning the gold medal in the downhill in her first Olympic appearance, at the PyeongChang Winter Games. It was the first Italian Olympic gold medal in the women’s downhill and cemented Sofia’s place as the world’s speed queen. During the season, she also won her first downhill World Cup.
At the Beijing Winter Olympics, just a month after a serious knee injury, the “Queen of the Snow” won an extraordinary silver medal. A record-breaking season also saw her win her third World Cup downhill title.
Sofia won the World Cup downhill title for the fourth time. The following year, she suffered an injury, which forced her to end the season early. In 2025, she demonstrated her fitness recovery, placing third in the overall World Cup standings.
