POLE VAULTING
At just 18 years old, he made his mark on the international scene by winning the Under-20 World Championships. That same year, “Mondo” – as he was known since childhood – also won gold at the European Championships in Berlin and, with a leap of 6.05 meters, set a world junior record, revealing a remarkable talent.
In February, he cleared 6.17 meters in Torun, breaking the world indoor record. A few days later, in Glasgow, he improved again with 6.18 meters, ushering in a new era in the event.
At the Tokyo Olympic Games, he won the gold medal with a competition he dominated from start to finish. His Olympic success confirmed that records are not the result of occasional exploits, but of consolidated superiority.
At the Paris Olympic Games, he won another gold medal in front of a delirious crowd. Considered the greatest pole vaulter of all time, he has broken the world record for the pole vault 15 times to date, currently holding a distance of 6.31 meters. He also boasts three world titles, four world indoor titles, and three European titles. Furthermore, “Mondo” is the second male track and field athlete to receive the Laureus Award, in 2025, when he was named Sportsman of the Year. Also in 2025 he was voted best athlete in the world by the AIPS, for the second consecutive year.
