At the Sochi Winter Olympics, Dorothea won the bronze medal in the 15 km individual event, giving Italy a historic medal in women’s biathlon. This result brought her to international prominence.
She enjoyed one of the most extraordinary seasons of her career: at the World Championships in Östersund, she won a gold medal in the mass start, a silver medal in the individual mixed relay, and a bronze medal in the mixed relay. At the end of the season, Dorothea became the first Italian athlete to win the overall Biathlon World Cup, as well as the pursuit World Cup. That same year, she was among the winners of the Fair Play Menarini International Award.
At the World Championships in Antholz, she won two gold medals (pursuit and individual race) and two silver medals (mixed relay and mass start). For the second consecutive year, she won the Biathlon World Cup, as well as the mass start title.
At the Beijing Winter Games, she won her third Olympic bronze medal in the individual sprint race. At the 2023 World Championships in Oberhof, she won the gold medal in the relay and the silver in the mixed relay.
